LEBALA CAMP
KWANDO

CAMP

Lebala Camp is hidden in the southern portion of the 232 000 ha (550 000 acres) Kwando wilderness in Northern Botswana. The camp accommodates 16 guests in 8 spacious luxurious safari tents, each built on a raised teak deck and laid out with maximum comfort and privacy in mind. Lebala is the Tswana word for wide-open plains, and each tent has extensive views over expansive tracts of African plains and wetlands, that comprise part of the Kwando-Linyanti flood plain system.  The tents have an entrance foyer with a reading and writing area, a spacious bedroom area, private bathroom with reed enclosed open-air shower, and side entrance to preserve privacy.  The endless view from the large windows and decks across the vast plains, make Lebala one of the finest wilderness camps in Africa.

Labala is an organised Family Safari destination – click here for more details.

GAME VIEWING / ACTIVITIES:

The game viewing at Lebala is amongst the best in Africa with the large concentrations of game such as elephant, lion, wild dog, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, tsessebe, kudu, lechwe, impala, wildebeest, waterbuck, roan & Sable with excellent visibility on the plains, having a reputation for predator action with the lions known for their ability to hunt and kill mega fauna like buffalo, hippo and elephant. Lebala is famous for elephant sightings as is neighbouring Lagoon camp, 2 hours drive north. There are no water activities offered due to the presence of large numbers of hippo and elephant in the channels.

·         Game drives

Morning and night game drives are conducted by our specialist guides and trackers in open safari vehicles.  At night, spotlights enable sightings of rare and elusive species such as, leopard, selous mongoose, small spotted genet, and aardwolf as well as other wildlife and nocturnal bird species.

·         Bush Walks

Bush walks are at guides’ discretion due to seasonal high elephant concentrations.

KWANDO

The Kwando concession is situated in Northern Botswana to the northeast of the Okavango Delta in the heart of big game country. The Kwando concession is 2,320 square km or 550,000 acres in extent, making it one of the largest private safari areas in Africa. The Kwando River forms our eastern boundary giving us over 80km (50 miles) of exclusive permanent river frontage, with abundant hippo and crocodiles.

The Kwando-Linyanti flood plain system is an intricate labyrinth of waterways, reedbeds, islands, floodplains, bush, scrub and trees.

AFRICA MEMORIES TIP:

Be on the lookout for Lechwe, the most aquatic antelope after the Sitatunga, which can outrun its predators in shallow water thanks to its powerful hindquarters which propel it in long leaps and elongated hooves which keep it from sinking.  Birdlife in Botswana is just beautiful – sit in the hide at Lebala and enjoy the sights and sounds of the birds….take it all in and enjoy.
