The camp is shaded under massive African Ebony trees and comprises of 8 spacious purpose designed luxury safari tents, accommodating only 16 guests, with views over the private lagoon formed by the ever-changing Kwando River.  Each tent comprises a bedroom area with a spacious bathroom en suite with outdoor reeded showers, capturing the very essence of Africa. Two of the tents are connected via an elevated walkway making them ideal for a family travelling together. Double beds are available on request. GAME VIEWING / ACTIVITIES:

Kwando Lagoon Camp - game drive... Wild Dog 'viewing' the guests!

Wild Dog ‘viewing the guests

A variety of mammals graze on the wide flood plains, in spectacular scenery under the ever-watchful scrutiny of predators.  Lagoon offers regular and reliable sightings of elephant, lion, wild dog, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, tsessebe, impala, wildebeest, buffalo and waterbuck in stunning settings.  The endangered Sable and Roan are also often seen. In the dry season Lagoon offers a mega fauna experience unmatched in Africa, with sightings of up to 1 000 elephant in a single game drive.  The lion prides regularly hunt elephant in this remote region, a habit undocumented elsewhere in Africa.   Herds of up to 2000 buffalo also attract the attention of lion and hyena.  Packs of wild dogs provide excitement for many months when they have pups, motivating them to undertake action packed hunts twice a day.

Lagoon Camp is peaceful and wonderful in summer, savage and wonderful in winter.

·         Game drives

Morning and night game drives are conducted by our specialist guides and trackers in open safari vehicles.  The night drives present a drama of epic proportions when the buffalo move through the parched floodplains with the chance to see the nocturnal predators at ‘work’.

·         Boat Cruises

The purpose designed double-decker barge with a jet engine is designed to navigate the shallows and ox bows of the Kwando River all year round.  The strong current in the river enables us to float silently down the river, and experience the peace and quiet of this remote wilderness.

·         Fishing

Kwando Lagoon Camp - Fishing

We also offer specialist fly fishing and spinner fishing for Tiger fish and Bream with some excellent catches made by our guests.

KWANDO

The Kwando concession is situated in Northern Botswana to the northeast of the Okavango Delta in the heart of big game country. The Kwando concession is 2,320 square km or 550,000 acres in extent, making it one of the largest private safari areas in Africa. The Kwando River forms our eastern boundary giving us over 80km (50 miles) of exclusive permanent river frontage, with abundant hippo and crocodiles.

The Kwando-Linyanti flood plain system is an intricate labyrinth of waterways, reedbeds, islands, floodplains, bush, scrub and trees.  However, the river system around Lagoon camp is a maze of ox bow lakes, fossil riverbeds, reedbeds and riverine forests just waiting for you to enjoy on safari.

AFRICA MEMORIES TIP:

Look out for the spotted necked otters in the lagoon in front of the tents – if they remain undisturbed, they will entertain you with their playful antics. Squirrels are inquisitive creatures, so be on the lookout for them ‘sighting you’, something you will both amusingly remember.

To complete your ultimate Kwando safari experience, it is recommended to stay at both Lagoon Camp as well as Lebala Camp, situated on the wide open planes just 2 hours drive South.
