GAME VIEWING / ACTIVITIES:

The combination of the maze of waterways, islands, seasonal flood planes and bush are an idyllic territory for herds of plains game and opportunistic predators, with ultimate viewing opportunities being as follows:

  • Kwara - Mokoro Mokoro - Romantic MokoroMekoro dug out canoe trips

Mekoro (dug out canoe), made from fiberglass therefore conserving the trees, move silently through the flood plains, poled by our guides which are trained and armed. The mekoro trip will take you to an island, where you can enjoy a refreshment break and a guided walk before your relaxing return to camp by mekoro. A memorable experience and the highlight for many.  Kwara, due to the presence of permanent water, ensures good game viewing and mekoro (dugout canoes) trips throughout the year.

·         Boat Cruises

Double deck boat cruises enable you to view the spectacular scenery with all-round visibility above the reed beds in the Okavango Delta.

·         Guided walks

Our highly enlightening and informative guided walks focus on the eco-systems and smaller creatures of the African bush.

·         Morning & night game drives

Morning drives start soon after sunrise and are conducted by experienced guides and trackers. These informative drives last between 3 and 4 hours during which one can expect to see a variety of animals and birds.

Night drives are a highlight – a chance to see nocturnal animals such as leopard, lion, wild dog, hyena and smaller predators, with the aid of spotlights.  Maximum of 6 guests per vehicle in individual seats ensures maximal comfort and all drives are conducted on and off-road. Leave the camp late afternoon, stop for sunset drinks before carrying on into the night. Return to camp for dinner.

·         Fishing

Fishing in the delta for bream, pike, catfish and tiger fish is most enjoyable and relaxing.

Fishing tackle is provided for spinner fishing, which is available at most of our camps. Guests are welcome to bring their own fly-fishing equipment.

OKAVANGO DELTA

The 15,000 square km Okavango Delta is formed by the Okavango River, which fans out over northwest Botswana. There are only 3 inland deltas in the world and all are in Africa but the Okavango Delta is the only really wild delta remaining.  Kwara camp and Little Kwara camp are located centrally in the large Kwara concession on the border of the world famous Moremi Game Reserve in the fringe of the permanent Okavango Delta.  The area is one of the few in the Okavango Delta on permanent water that can also do game drives all year round.

AFRICA MEMORIES TIP:

Take in everything that Kwara offer.  Even if you aren’t a fisherman, try it! Once you hook that tiger or bream and enjoy the fight as you reel it in, you are hooked! (And the stories in the bar afterwards can be most entertaining.)
