VIEWING / ACTIVITIES: The year-round availability of water at Little Kwara makes this
one of the most consistent game-viewing experiences available in
Southern Africa where you can experience the excitement of seeing big
game species, the enjoyment of seeing smaller species, the thrill of
seeing the ever attendant predators. With the great variation in
ecosystems and habitats Little Kwara is an ideal birding destination
as well.
Sit
back in a mekoro (dug out canoe) and enjoy moving silently through the
flood plains taking in all the sight and sounds the delta has to
offer. The mekoro trip will take you to an island, where you can enjoy
a refreshment break and a guided walk before your relaxing return to
camp by mekoro. A memorable experience and the highlight for many.
Due to the presence of permanent water, mekoro trips are
available throughout the year. ·
Boat
Cruises Double
deck boat cruises enable you to view the spectacular scenery with
all-round visibility above the reed beds in the Okavango Delta. ·
Guided
walks Our
highly enlightening and informative guided walks focus on the
eco-systems and smaller creatures of the African bush. ·
Morning
& night game drives
The ability to operate off road and at night is critical in order to see
the up to 30% of interesting mammal species
that are mainly active at night, including leopard, lion, wild dog,
hyena and a variety of smaller predators. ·
Fishing
Fishing
is also offered on request, using normal reel and rod fishing - flying
fishing enthusiasts need to bring their own equipment. Species
of the delta include bream, pike, catfish and tiger fish – all
thrilling to catch. OKAVANGO DELTA The
15,000 square km Okavango Delta is formed by the Okavango River, which
fans out over northwest Botswana. There are only 3 inland deltas in
the world and all are in Africa but the Okavango Delta is the only
really wild delta remaining. Kwara
camp and Little Kwara camp are located centrally in the large Kwara
concession on the border of the world famous Moremi Game Reserve in
the fringe of the permanent Okavango Delta.
The area is one of the few in the Okavango Delta on permanent
water that can also do game drives all year round. AFRICA MEMORIES TIP: The
birds of the Okavango Delta are beautiful, waking you with their calls
early in the morning and entertaining you during the day with their
courtships, foraging and ‘busy days’ in the tree canopies, on the
ground, and in the reeds. The
best time to view and photograph birds is first thing in the morning
and later on in the afternoon, when they are most active and the light
is good. Capture the memories of the ‘colours’ of the Okavango.
